Thank you for your interest in the work and tasks of the Cologne Police!

Whenever you wish to accompany police officers on operations, special legal requirements must be observed. These arise, among other things, from the decree of the Ministry of the Interior and Municipal Affairs for Press and Public Relations Work of the North Rhine-Westphalia Police of 15.11.2011, the so-called "media decree".

Requests for information are not part of the official duty to provide information specified in § 4 (1) LPG NRW, but are a voluntary service provided by the police authority (see section 5 of the media decree). In order to inform the public about the work of the Cologne police and to strengthen citizens' trust in the professional performance of police duties, media coverage is generally possible after thorough examination.

Examination criteria are in particular:

• The topic and focus of the report
• Broadcast format
• Duration and effort
• Relation to the Cologne police

Please understand that the Cologne police can only give a commitment if all the necessary criteria are met in full. This primarily includes the concrete promise of a broadcast date. We do not support a "canned" production in view of our personnel resources!

Please note that "docu-soap" formats, "reality TV" formats, "fake docu" formats and "scripted reality" documentaries are not supported under any circumstances!

In order to process your request promptly, please complete the following checklist and the media contracts provided. Please then send the documents to pressestelle.koeln [at] polizei.nrw.de (subject: Mediales%20Begleitersuchen) (pressestelle[dot]koeln[at]polizei[dot]nrw[dot]de).

Final approval will be granted by the Ministry of the Interior and Municipal Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia after a further review by the State Office for Training, Further Education and Personnel Affairs of the NRW Police (LAFP).
