Heinsberg-Donselen - Early on Friday morning (November 22), a traffic accident occurred at the intersection of the B 221/L 227/K 13 in which two people were seriously injured.
At around 5 a.m., a 20-year-old man from Heinsberg was driving a van on the B 221 coming from the direction of Heinsberg in the direction of Geilenkirchen.
At the same time, a 36-year-old man from Gangelt, also in a van, was traveling on the K 13 from the direction of Waldenrath in the direction of Dremmen.
A collision occurred between the vehicles involved at the intersection for reasons as yet unexplained. The impact caused one of the vehicles to be thrown against a traffic light. Both drivers suffered serious injuries. The Gangelter was trapped in his car and had to be freed by rescue workers. The men had to be taken to hospital for further treatment.
A special accident investigation team from Düsseldorf was called in to investigate the accident. The scene of the accident remained closed for several hours until midday.
